The final destination of our trip was Naples, which we used as a base to be able to travel to the surrounding Islands and bay’s. Our first excursion was to Sorrento, a coastal town directly opposite Naples. Once we arrived we stopped for some food and drink at one of the waterside restaurants. We broke tradition and had something other than an aperol spritz, with both of us opting for a limoncello cocktail, as we looked out across the water. We soaked up the alcohol with a huge prawn salad and then began to wind our up way up the path to the shopping centre of Sorrento, Piazza Tasso. I suggest you head to the historic centre of Sorrento where you’ll find a maze of little streets packed with shops and stalls selling traditional Sorrento crafts. Including jewellery, lemon soap, leather sandals and bottles of Limoncello made from lemons grown on the mountainside. Although Sorrento is predominantly a tourist town, I found that it's really kept it's authentic feel and traditional roots.
The next place we decided to visit was Capri, we actually ended up loving it there so much that we visited twice. On our first day trip to Capri we decided to book a boat trip around the island which I’d highly recommend. The views were stunning and it was well worth the money. There was also the option to pay an extra fourteen euro to be taken on a ‘Blue Lagoon experience’, which we were eager to do. We were paddled into a pitch-black cave in a little rowing boat which was so packed with other people doing the same thing, we couldn’t really see the glowing blue water that we were promised. We spent the majority of the three minute ‘experience’ in fits of laughter and although it was funny, it isn’t something I’d rush to do again!
On our last day of the trip we decided to head back to Capri for our final Italian lunch and a swim in the crystal-clear water. We spent our last few hours in Italy sipping on mojitos, having one last plate of pasta each and taking in the view!
