After finally arriving in Rome, we settled into our Airbnb in Monti, an area that’s well known for it’s lively bars and trendy shopping streets. Once we’d unpacked we headed straight to the Colosseum and explored the surrounding area, as well as scouting out a tattoo parlour that offered walk in appointments. After a full day of travel we were absolutely knackered, so ordered another bowl of carbonara each and then passed out, ready for another day of exploring the next morning.

We woke up and headed straight to the tattoo parlour (Yama Tattoo) where I got a tiny sun moon and stars tattoo on my arm as a little memento of the trip. All wrapped up in cellophane we then headed straight to the Trevi fountain, which was unsurprisingly rammed with tourists. We managed to squeeze into a gap down by the water and throw a euro into the water, according to legend, tossing one coin into the Trevi Fountain means one day you’ll return to Rome! It’s worth having a wander around the surrounding area once you’ve seen the fountains, with lots of pretty side streets and market stalls dotted around the place. We then stopped for some lunch and refuelled with a huge beer, be sure to head a little way out of the hub around the fountain to avoid an expensive food bill.

In the evening we decided to make the most of the party life that Rome offers. We cooked ourselves some dinner, got ready and headed to Voodoo Bar. If you’re after an interesting night then this is the place to go, on arrival we were extremely confused, just expecting a run of the mill tiki style bar, we ended up following a candle lit path to a huge outdoor tropical bar and restaurant with a Caribbean bar, a voodoo garden and a sushi bar, as well as a section dedicated to tarot reading and a healing garden where you can pay for a massage. We stayed here for a couple of drinks and then headed to a more mainstream bar in the centre of Rome, (Shari Vari), which then turned into a club as the night went on. Its safe to say we blew a good chunk of our budget this night and to this day I’m still baffled as to how we managed to find our way back to the Airbnb! Our plans to visit the Vatican were a distant dream as we spent the last day in Rome wandering around with hefty hangovers. (Nothing a bowl of pasta couldn’t fix.)
