I'm a self confessed lover of all things breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake related. Over the years I've spent an embarrassing amount of time scouting out new brunch spots wherever I go. Here is a run down of my top brunch spots that are local to me in the West Midlands.

Peckish Cafe - Albrighton

First up we have Peckish Cafe, which is located on the main high street of Albrighton. This is a cosy, family run cafe with delicious, freshly cooked food and homemade cakes. The menu consists of mainly brunch style food, with a small selection of sandwiches. As I spent five years working in this cafe, I can attest to the quality and the freshness of the food, with everything cooked to order, from a number of local suppliers! I've been lucky enough to sample the entire menu, and can highly recommend the Mexican Benedict, the Sweet Stack Pancakes and the Peckish Deli sandwich. On my most recent visit, my friend and I indulged in pancakes with fresh fruit, maple syrup and white chocolate mascarpone, and a breakfast brioche bun that they had on the specials that day! If you're full after your meal, they also have a selection of cakes you can take home, with vegan and gluten free options.

Medicine Bakery + Kitchen - Codsall

Next up we have Medicine, an artisan bakery and kitchen located in Codsall, as well as now having two other branches in Birmingham. They offer a large brunch and lunch menu that has a luxury feel, as well as a huge selection of freshly baked pastries, cakes and bread. With a large, chic interior, Medicine is the perfect place to take your laptop and treat yourself to their varied menu and award winning coffee. My personal favourites are the french toast and the cronuts, I particularly like the sticky toffee pudding one! On my most recent visit, I tried the avocado and poached eggs on toast, topped with pickled radish, pomegranate and dukkha. I also treated myself to some cake to take away.

The Birds Nest Cafe - Shrewsbury

Next on my list is The Birds Nest Cafe in Shrewsbury, one of my favourite brunch spots ever! It's not the easiest to find, and unless you know Shrewsbury well, it can be easily missed. Located in the market hall, this cafe is tucked in amongst the other stalls, with a number of squishy sofas, booths and hidden seating nooks. The Birds Nest offers some of the nicest coffee I've ever had, alongside a small, but delicious menu, with plenty of locally sourced ingredients. The food on offer here is a bit different to your run of the mill brunch food, and makes for a refreshing change. Saying this, my go to order is just a flat white and eggs on toast!

Ginger and Co - Shrewsbury

Last but not least, we have Ginger and Co, also found in Shrewsbury. This cafe is a little easier to find, located in a grade two listed building, with a distinctive baby blue exterior and large windows that make it the perfect place for people watching. The menu here consists of wholesome, hearty food, as well as a large selection of home made cakes, much of which is vegan. During my most recent visit, I tried the peanut butter porridge, topped with raspberry compote, flaked almonds, coconut and cacao nibs. I'd highly recommend!

These are just a few of my favourite brunch spots in the West Midlands, keep your eyes out for more recommendations in the future!
